LAND ROVER
DEFENDER 110 TD4

"Our fearless partner on the road, our go-anywhere home on wheels. The 110 is the backbone of our adventures."

Year: 2010

Engine: 2.4l 4-cylinder diesel

Horsepower: 122 hp

Mileage: 180.000 km

Color: Keswick Green

Nickname: Rosie (we kept the name given to the car by the previous owners)

Owned: 2020 - present

Status: Always keen and ready-to-go for adventures with the occasional maintenance and modification break

Background: When we got into a relationship almost ten years ago we bought a tiny scale model of a Defender 110, put it into a cupboard in the livingroom so that we could see it everyday and said to ourselves: "One day we´ll own one of these, convert it into an expedition vehicle and go for a once in a lifetime trip. Fast forward to today we still can´t believe that all these dreams came true and we could not be happier about it.

However this path was not clear from the beginning as we prepared our previous car (a Defender 90, see below) for the big trip. But when Covid turned the world upside down in 2020 we had to postpone our departure. While basically being in lockdown in the spring of the same year we scrolled the good old interwebs and found this gem pretty much around the corner of where we used to live at the time. We were fully prepared to tackle our long adventure with the 90 but we knew in the back of our minds that a little more interior space for a rainy day could come in handy. We already knew we wanted to cross colder climate areas as well. So we went to have a look at the 110, we liked what we saw and it has been a love story ever since.

The car was already converted into a camper with a solid interior and a pop-up roof and for us this was the perfect blank canvas to draw on. Over the months prior to our departure we went through the vehicle from top to bottom individualizing it for our needs: Tires, roofrack, lighting, PV and electrical system, fuel, storage, awning, recovery gear - the list goes on and with a car like this you are never really done, right?
